The juxtaposition, in this video, between Senator Specter's serious and concerned attitude on the one hand, and Attorney General Gonzales' casual and lighthearted smugness on the other, is sickening.

Let's see. I saw one (albeit incorrect) man with brass balls, taking on an entire crowd of (frat boy?) mockers.

And then I saw one professor do two things:

1) Say the word "Motherfucker" for a very cheap laugh, and 2) Threaten to call the police on somebody for public speech.

That's what I saw.

"mob"....these guys seem to be students on their own campus - I couldn't see any 'mob' behaviour at all - all the students seem to be completely relaxed - there's a guy right next to him sitting down, leaning back and relaxing...

He's got twenty people backing him and egging him on, against one lone guy without any support. My point was that he has "courage" in the light of that. The courage of the herd. If you want to say, fine, but they're not a "mob" because they're not brandishing pitchforks and torches, that's fine with me.

It also is on the campus of UCLA.

"intimidate".... casually - and I mean casually taking the guys case...or are you thinking of the word "motherfucker"?.... this has to go down as one of the least intimidating intonations of that particular word ever!

When the man said not to steal his case or he would call the police, the professor essentially responded, yeah, call the police, they're gonna believe me and my mob, not you.

That's classic intimidation.

You know what else is unacceptable?

I think that there's one quote in particular sums up this entire debacle.

On July 9, 2003, then-White House Press Secretary Ari Fleischer was asked why, in light of all the pre-war assurances that Bush, Rumsfeld, Cheney, Powell, Rice and others gave us saying that we knew Hussein had WMDs, and in fact we knew where they were, why we hadn't, actually, um, found any WMDs.

Mr. Fleischer:

Hoyer, Dem, who actually made the announcement to the press pool, tells them he's got "bad news" - those reporters are not going to have as much time off as they did. If you can't see that this is blatant sarcasm, you're an idiot.

Thompson, Dem, says that this change was long overdue.

Schultz, Dem, mentions that she will have to reschedule her Brownie Troop's meetings.

Against that incredible litany of complaints, so extreme and unreasonable, we have:

Blunt, Republican, sees mere political advantage for himself: It's a silver lining for Republicans because Democratic freshmen won't be able to "establish themselves in their districts". Forget the ridiculous fact that Republicans cut the Congressional work week down to two, two and a half days - simply not important to Blunt.

Hmm. If the right wing misleads and misinforms, to what do they misdirect their anger? Misdirected, it must be pretty useless. Misdirected anger. That's kinda funny.

Are you serious?

Misdirected, for example, away from the fact that our President spies on us without judicial warrant, and towards the fact that Michael Moore is fat.

Misdirected, for example, away from the fact that our President has made us into a nation of torturers, and towards the fact that one of the Dixie Chicks said that she was ashamed that Bush was from Texas.

Misdirected, for example, away from the fact that our President has held American citizens indefinitely without placing charges against them or giving them access to lawyers, and towards the fact that some stores put up signs that said "Happy Holidays!".

Using latin phrases doesn't make you smart. It's misdirected something or other.

Nor does being unable to interpret simple statements.

The third-worst president is Nixon, a criminal in the White House who is still the only commander in chief ever to resign. Many presidents have abused their power, and the "imperial presidency" existed long before Nixon. But he was the only president to run a criminal gang out of the Oval Office engaging in spying and burglary while he sought to corrupt the Justice Department, the FBI and the CIA. (By contrast, Bush's misguided authorization of torture, secret CIA prisons and illegal eavesdropping were at least directed at suspected terrorists, not at his personal and political opponents.)
