I find it difficult to like Kimi Raikkonen, help me understand. by oh84sin formula1

[–]Gian_Doe 1 point2 points ago

I was going to say exactly what you said after, "the flip side."

He's not interested in coming third, he's not interested in coming second, winning races is nice but it's only one step to winning a championship.

When I come in second in simulation leagues I'm happy in some ways, but I'm more angry that I didn't win and critiquing my race mentally. He knows it's about avoiding the ups and downs and staying consistent over time. For the media however the opposite is true, they want ups and downs because the narrative makes things more exciting.

When those two worlds come together it's like oil and water. I think Alonso can be the same way sometimes and he's misunderstood in similar ways.

Also, he's Finnish and they tend to be a be a bit more reserved but everyone is different so it's more a stereotype.

One of the most famous piano concertos of all time and maybe the most well known. Years ago before I appreciated this type of music I was introduced to Rach's 2nd and it changed my taste in music forever.

His third is really good too.

Questions for you watch aficionados... by voxsonorumin Watches

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago

The most common way you can tell someone is wearing a fake chronograph is because the second hand is moving.

It probably sounds counterintuitive to people who aren't into watches, but living in NYC you'd be surprised how many people I see wearing "breitlings" with the second hand just ticking away - obvious fakes.

As far as I can figure out the trees way off the map do nothing, you can fly right through them. But just gently touch a tree when you're near the bases and you explode instantly.

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago

As some of the other comments have mentioned there are sex shops everywhere. They purposely designed loopholes in the law so it wasn't a problem.

So why bother with making the law in the first place if it's ineffective?

Because the people getting elected need to please the religious people as well as the secular ones to stay elected.

In reality the south isn't really messed up too much. I live in the north but when I think of the south it's just really friendly people and delicious food. Naturally you can travel into some isolated towns to find some stereotypes but for the most part it's nothing crazy like it would seem from this post. You'd be shocked how nice southern people are though, Americans in general are friendly, southerners are on another level.

Second time I saw it I wondered how I could have hated her to begin with. Walt is acting weird as fuck, if anything you begin to respect her for not rolling over and just dealing with it. She's having none of the bullshit, as smart as he is she's always right there with him.

(Un)fare manipulation by hypedsoundmusicin geek

[–]Gian_Doe 3 points4 points ago

Personally I feel this is exactly what should happen. People find out, become indignant, and take their business elsewhere.

To some this might seem like an inefficient system because it involves discovery by an entity and action by the consumer. But if you compare it to the other alternatives often the other alternatives fix the problem faster yet often have unintended consequences.

For example, price gouging. Most people would agree it's a "shitty" sales practice. But punishing price gouging has unintended consequences. When Katrina hit some people in other unaffected states realized they could make a lot of money packing up a truck full of generators and selling them well above cost to people who needed them. Now of course everyone would prefer that they give them away as charity. But think about it, not everyone is independently wealthy and the incentive to make a bit more money means a guy rents a uhaul and fills a truck full of generators which people need. Those people who can afford it are less of a drain on the charity organizations which means they have more to give out to those in need.

Anyway what I'm getting at here is some of those people were accused of price gouging. When in reality the situation was better off because of them.

TL;DR: Laws aren't always the best solution to every problem.

We don't ruin the internet, or at least I don't, and I run a performance marketing company (we don't work with adsense though).

Many people in our industry don't agree with me but part of my job is making sure the sites I work with have original content so my advertisers aren't looked upon negatively by potential customers. Sites like this come off spammy and most legit brands don't want to be associated with that silliness.

Ads provide a useful service if they're done properly, the reason internet advertising has such a stigma is because people go for the fast buck, IMO. I saw a link for one of my favorite bands playing here in NYC last week, would have missed it otherwise. Let's just be good to each other and to our users/clients, in the long run we'll be the ones still in business with the positive reputations.

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago

Not to sound frustrated but have you listened to anything I've said? Economies are complex things, there are endless variables. The point I'm trying to make is you can't draw conclusions about how an entire economy performs from a handful of variables. As I stated in my original response if you compare the overall social welfare of Americans to their European counterparts, all variables considered, they're much better off overall.

I'm not saying we don't have areas for improvement, but let's not pick out one piece of an infinitely complex puzzle and say hey that doesn't work so the whole thing doesn't work. It has outperformed almost every economy on the planet for a century and we've all benefited.

Regarding the property taxes this is becoming whack a mole... I keep showing you real world examples and you keep coming up with excuses. First it was Romney and Obama only live in places like that, and I pick a small town in indiana to dispel that nonsense. Then it was well they're really far away from the city, but they're only twenty minutes from the state capital. Now it's property taxes. As much as I'd love to start looking up property tax figures for each state and whack another mole I get the feeling you have no interest in digesting this information, only reinforcing your narrative. Here, whack this mole (keep in mind this doesn't count cost of living, the USA has some of the lowest costs of living in the industrialized world.)

Here's another fun one.

But that's 10-15% of the population who is still living better than the majority of the world. The guy who makes $15 dollars an hour I guarantee you is living better than a person living a comparable wage in the indicative societies.

He makes 15 dollars an hour and lives on 60 fucking acres of land. The only reason I'm taking my time to explain this to you is I think people from your neck of the woods have no idea what things are really like here. If the fact that a guy who makes 15 dollars an hour can not only live comfortably but buy 60 goddamn acres of land doesn't tell you anything I don't think this is a message you want to accept. Try visiting sometime instead of getting your info from the news, strangely the news is designed to discuss problems. That doesn't necessarily reflect how the majority of americans live - we have problems like everyone else, the difference is everyone is looking at us because we've done so well up to this point.

Edit: At $2400/month before taxes which is about $2000 after taxes, the mortgage on the 3200 square foot house is 950 which would leave him 1050 dollars per month for everything else. Keep in mind that's what they're asking, it's reasonable he could get the payments to 850. While it wouldn't be ideal on his budget it's possible and he's a young guy. There's nothing which keeps him from buying a house like that if he wants to. You can argue all you want about how housing size is dependent on many variables, but the fact remains the average american lives in conditions most Europeans reserve only for the rich. A comment ago you said it only the Romneys and Obamas of the US lived like that, now it's just people who live in rural america (which is the vast majority of this country mind you). It's funny I just went back and fishers indiana is 20 minutes from the state capital... As the old saying goes, those in glass houses shouldn't throw stones - someone might toss a few back.

Have 1100+ cars, 1000+ unique.... What to do next? by With_a_Gin GT5

Protip: Pre endurance save gt5 to a usb. Then start the endurance. When you get to a stopping point, save it to another usb. Then if you want to race online you just load the first save, and when you want to continue the endurance you load the other save.

Obviously everything you do on the pre endurance save will be lost, but I just race online anyway and the credits and xp from days of racing online you can get in one seasonal.

Stupid question. How do I find the bit where i can watch the top online lap records for a certain track and car? by nordic_rapein GT5

I'm not sure a comprehensive list of all cars and tracks exists. Even assuming it did even basic settings would mean thousands of permutations but I digress.

I'm fast as hell and always looking for a reason to do some racing... tell me what car, what settings (aids on, off, track reduction, tires, etc) you want I'll do some laps and tell you my best times.

BBC Sport - Formula 1's greatest drivers. Number 15: Lewis Hamilton by Jackingtonin formula1

[–]Gian_Doe 3 points4 points ago

But it's the most exciting part, IMO. You can study all the moves in the book but nothing is as exciting as watching genius unfold in unexpected moments.

It's that added mystique from when you were a kid and imagined that you were so much better you knew if you got it together nobody in the world could touch you. He literally has that in real life.

I've never seen anyone drive like he does when he's at 100%. Fernando is a real person and drives like a super hero, I'm not entirely convinced Hamilton is even human when he's at his best.

That said, the reason Hamilton isn't my favorite driver is because like you said talent isn't everything. Alonso is the best driver on the grid all around.

Most Americans don't live in 5000 sq ft houses on large swaths of land. Mitt Romney and Barrack Obama and John Boehner don't represent most Americans.

My friend guys like Mitt and Barry have multiple 50k square foot houses on many many different swaths of land. The average american lives extremely well. One of the downsides of capitalism is inequality is extremely high between the richest and the poorest. What you hear about on the news is from 10-15% of the population at the very most.

I don't think people like you realize that just because they're much less rich than the richest even the poorest people here usually have cars, their own place (maybe a trailer) and land.

It's a smaller slice of a bigger pie. The only reason it gets attention is because when things get really good as a society you nitpick.

Actually fuck it, you want to see how most americans live? Pop open google maps and pick a random place... then take a click through street view tour. Even in a modest midwestern town you'll see most americans aren't exactly having a bad time... here's one I randomly clicked on from the middle of the map: Fishers, Indiana (even sounds modest). Shit I can hardly see the houses on this back country road because they're hidden by all the trees lining their driveways... but the ones I do see look like 5000 square foot monsters. I'd be willing to bet most of them are under $500k while in Europe those same houses would cost millions of dollars, not to mention the price of utilities.

As a side note, an unexpected yet pleasant side effect of this conversation is that I actually really like this random indiana town, might visit sometime! Check out this place. Newer house, less than 1000 bucks a month for almost 3500 square feet, 4 bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, and your own garage... If this is 3000 something square feet and it's $250,000 $500,000 gets you over 6000 square feet, look at the inside of this one.

I'd bet you see what I'm saying at this point. For the most part, when americans bitch, ignore them. It's all relative. ;)
