Thanks for your response! I'm an agnostic because I don't claim to know exactly how the universe works but I guess I assumed people misinterpreted "god's image". God might just represent life, I wonder if they ever thought of that, life is pretty breathtaking when you look at the details in even the simplest of creatures!

Maybe, assuming this was written by a "God", humans misinterpreted because they're egotistical and think it's always about them.

Interesting, so essentially they've painted themselves into a corner?

I wonder what those same people think of a book like revelations which is pretty abstract. Seems odd to me that people would assume to interpret the word of an infallible deity correctly instead of it being metaphorical or out of the reach of their full understanding.

Driving Force GT: Drifting? by CrabCowin GT5

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago*

Got the DFGT around December of last year and I was a pro with a controller, even had the first ranking online at one point(time trial, not drift).

Using the wheel was a humbling experience at first. I went from thinking I was top shit to being shit. The short version is it takes a LOT of practice, but I can now out perform my controller drift scores with a wheel.

There are really two parts when I break down the process mentally. The first is the oversteer, the second is the "catch".

First, get your car into second gear and approach a turn, stick to the outside on the approach like you would on a normal racing line. Now you want to press the gas hard enough to break the rear tires loose. Keep in mind this might not mean pressing it all the way down (edit: or press it all the way down for a split second to break them loose and then immediately hold 20% power)! If you press it all the way down when you don't need to you're going to heat the rear tires too quickly which will give you less control in the slide, which is where you want control! Try to avoid the temptation to mash the gas and keep it buried, only use enough gas to break the car loose and maintain the throttle with just enough to keep them spinning but not too much to overheat them.

The second and most important part is the catch, this took me forever to master. The easy part is letting the wheel naturally countersteer as the back steps out, the hard part is turning the wheel back the other way toward the apex at exactly the correct moment. When I started to do well with the wheel it was because as soon as I felt the car settle into the drift I would turn the wheel back into the turn as fast as I could. It worked but I've realized recently I was turning back too late, meaning I was having to turn back as fast as I could. You want to turn the wheel back in toward the apex when you're around 10% before the end of your slide. That means you can still be sliding toward the outside while turning your wheel back toward the inside. If you turn back too soon, you spin out, turn back to late, you spin out. Mastering this window meant my drift runs went from me looking like a madman trying to manhandle the wheel to smoothly catching the wheel and managing drifts like I was on a sunday drive.

Try to visualize the angle the front wheels are turning relative to your wheel work at all times, that helps too!

Many more liberal Christians can see creation and evolution going hand in hand.

While I'm not Christian I've always been confused why evolution and their religion don't get along. I mean, it's God, it can do anything it wants, why would it be so out of the question for it to develop the blueprint for life and let it take its course?

Anyway, just a thought, if anyone knows why please let me know!

My roommate discovered Skrillex by mped1166in firstworldproblems

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago

Absolutely! My tastes are constantly evolving, I still like the stuff I used to listen to but it's interesting how the mind moves on to different sounds and the old stuff doesn't get a lot of attention. They aren't necessarily better beats it's just what you've listened to in the past seems like it's gone as far as it can go and you move on.

When something like dubstep comes along it's so similar to a period I've already experienced it doesn't have the same pop it would if I were more musically "green".

Homeless man singing Adele like a boss by samcouturein Music

[–]Gian_Doe 5 points6 points ago

Everytime a friend of mine visits from the midwest and sees a busker I end up insisting they're not homeless (biggest tipoff aside from shoes, the smell). When I lived off the G train there was a guy who played the ukulele all the time down there who lived off my spot. My brother didn't believe me, despite my insistence, that he actually lived near me and wasn't homeless.

My one night experience as a tall(er) person -- trials and tribulations by justcallmezachin tall

[–]Gian_Doe 1 point2 points ago

Maybe, although I grew up in the midwest and live in a rough part of brooklyn currently. Most people in the midwest just call you hoss or big guy all the time and joke about how large you are - here in BK most comments I get are about how I'm probably a "baller". Nobody has ever tried to pick a fight with me about it, in fact usually they get pretty sheepish if you're sitting down and then stand up, so it has the opposite effect if anything.

I strongly suspect it's because your body type didn't match your height.

I strongly suspect it was easy to tell your body type didn't match your size.

About the stepped noses.. by Delahorneyin formula1

[–]Gian_Doe 0 points1 point ago

The new regulations say the front of the car can only be so high off the ground to keep from catching the back wheel of another driver and flying, like mark webber.

Much of the downforce on an F1 car comes from the underside, the splitter, etc so they're increasing the amount of air flowing into that area so they can develop it and see if they can find an advantage. According to the windtunnel tests the step creates downforce on that area of the front wing which is pretty much equal to the downforce higher speed air creates over a normal looking nose, so there's no upside or downside currently, only theory.

Watch this for a detailed explanation.

TL;DR: Teams using the step are hoping they can find an advantage down the road by running more air under the car, currently there isn't one but there's theoretical potential.

In my 30s and I still haven't seen it all the way through. I've caught parts here and there but it's so bad I can't watch it all the way through.

I grew up pretty sheltered, lots of those movies my friends are always on about don't mean much when you see them older. Fell asleep during Goonies which pissed them off. This weekend I'm supposed to see the Ghostbusters movies, hopefully they're better.

anyone have any good set-ups for the ferrari enzo? by zonatedproductin GT5

[–]Gian_Doe 2 points3 points ago*

Ignore the people saying it's a bad car (although it is by default). Once you get it tuned it's a lot of fun, and while it's not as easy to drive quickly as a 458 or an aventador, if you're a good driver you get a lot of respect for winning in an enzo online.

A guy in an enzo finishing toward the top on a street track gets more respect from pros than a noob getting 1st mashing the gas in his 4WD GT-R all day. We all know who really won that race so keep driving your enzo!

Definitely, it just seems slow because dnb has warped my brain. I wonder if I'd be a big dubstep fan if I was born 10 years later. It's weird to get older, you see trends come and go and then come back again in a slightly different form and develop cycles. Life is a strange, lovely, thing.
