I was born in '85 and I barely remember the 80s outside of Ninja Turtles and Star Wars.

What did school teach you that was blatantly false once you researched it on the Internet? by peetssin AskReddit

[–]Gemini4t 1 point2 points ago

Though in a sense it still refers to a place:

Yes, it refers to a place, it is not a place itself. That's what a preposition is. The term itself is even fairly self-explanatory: pre-position.

Past can be a place, when referring to "the past," but used as "we should go past" it's a preposition.

Watch the first 45seconds of the Neil deGrasse Tyson video. He talks about how it's wrong to assign baggage based on association (Christians=WBC, for example). If only r/atheism followed the lead of their most favorite person by Rawtashkin Christianity

/r/atheism has almost 800k subscribers. That's larger than any individual church that I am aware of, even the super-churches.

(I'm counting each Catholic church as an individual church, instead of the entire Roman Catholic Church.)

Judge rules flashing headlights to warn of speedtrap protected under Constitution by conn2005in Libertarian

Considering how the majority of this sub believes the Constitution doesn't apply to people in their dealings with state and local governments

Speak for yourself. I'm a libertarian, not a constitutionalist. There's plenty in the constitution I don't like, such as allowing the suspension of habeas corpus in times of insurrection.

Indeed, it was poorly worded.

What trivial act would you like to ban or make illegal? Personally, I would like to outlaw public speakers who start off by saying, "I can't hear you!" or "Let's try that again!" by danger_mcboomin AskReddit

I'm fine with people not walking on an escalator, but only if they stay to the right so others can pass. Otherwise they're being a selfish prick.

Probably, but he was caught off guard by it not working the first two times (I suspect he didn't know about the ARC chestpiece), which was enough of a moment for Iron Man to seize and get suited up.

To Theists: If gay marriage ruins the sanctity of marriage, how do you feel about married atheists? by winto_bunglein DebateReligion

If people live under my roof it's with my consent and with the understanding that it is my roof and my rules, and if they feel oppressed, they can move.

I agree they should change their rules, but it is their house and it is their rules. If you were in my house and you refused to follow rules that I set, I'd kick your ass out the door despite any protests you might make about my violating your civil rights.

And Coulson went from being a BAMF to a Cap Fanboy.

What are you talking about? Coulson got more action in this movie than in the three other movies he'd appeared in. Until this point he was just a guy who talked to other guys.

Your camera should be fine. But take care not to look directly at it with your eyes without special eyewear.

[–]Gemini4t 2 points3 points ago

Because with the eclipse, the brightness of the sun is diminished but its radiation harmful to eyesight is not diminished (except for five minutes in the case of a total eclipse, which this will not be.) The only pain receptors your eyes have are for light sensitivity, so staring at an eclipse for long periods can cause permanent retinal burn, and you won't even realize it's happening because it doesn't hurt to stare at it.

Looking at the sun is painful so you don't stare at it for very long, so warnings don't need to be as stern. Looking at an eclipse is far riskier not because of any increase in radiation output, but because of increased exposure time due to the diminished light.
