I've always wondered, what's it like being a pro football player socially? I knew a guy who played big-time college football in the 70s and he said they'd just walk into a bar and girls would leave they boyfriends on the spot? I assume the NFL is like that, times a million? On the other hand, do you have to mind your manners in public, so you don't end up on TMZ?

Join a student group. I know that sounds lame, but I went to a big state school and had the same experience -- lots of people around, lonely as shit.

But that's where going to a big school works in your favor. Into unicycling? They've probably got a group. Chess? They definitely have a group.

Yes, it will be awkward as shit at first. But then you'll end up meeting people and someone will suggest hanging out afterwards. Or someone will know of a house party. Boom, you've got friends. Some might even be girls (unless it's chess).

Seriously. Make a list of stuff you're into, then go find your people. It will be awesome.
