Body building, diet supplements linked to liver damage: study by TommyCollinsin Health

[–]Fu_Man_Chu 0 points1 point ago

"Body building" supplements is a rather broad and vague categorization. There are a myriad of different classes of supplements which bodybuilders or fitness aficionados take. Attempting to lump them all into one big category is a bit like saying "Food may cause liver damage". Sure some foods may do that but which ones?

Well I believe a more apt comparison to gladiatorial games would be combat sports such as MMA. In that comparison we have probably made some progress yes.

The thing that is off putting about what passes for popular entertainment is really it suffers from a dearth of imagination. We are capable of so much yet it seems we must always cater to the lowest common denominator. This is an inherent problem with capitalism as a whole it seems.

Are you seriously comparing Gladiatorial games to a guy on prime time television who makes funny faces while people thwap him in the nads?

I think you accidentally a word or two there... but yeah... the problem isn't so much as the guy working his balls off on stage (almost literally) is being irrational, it's that we reward the most ridiculous things in this society. People starve on the streets while we organize elaborate ways to watch each other do idiotic things. Our priorities are quite simply all fucked up.

Just take a step back and think for a minute. Millions of people are watching a man on stage get his testicles assaulted for the chance to win little pieces of paper (granted a lot of them). That will in turn allow him to purchase things from other people who also desperately want those little pieces of paper. I'm not quite sure I'd WANT to fit in with that society.

Nah, the stuff is really pliable. You just need a small amount over your junk and suddenly it'd be like you had a kevlar plate down there (only stronger and more shock absorbent). Very easy to conceal.

So putting that reactive foam that stunt guys use around your junk and letting people hit you is entertaining now is it?

Kinda sounds like what Bush did with the nation. Load up a lot of debt, hand out the cash to your company (Halliburton, etc) and then split with the profits leaving the original company/nation holding that big ol' bag of debt.

DAE think the UFC "B-Team" announcers have gotten better? by Chewyboognishin MMA

[–]Fu_Man_Chu 0 points1 point ago

They can improve their system for delivering sponsorship messages to get around this though. I'm not sure why they have someone read it live anyway, as even when it's done right it sounds forced. They should simply create small audio files (something not too intrusive but professionally made in advance) that go with the on screen graphics. So none of the commentators have to talk about anything other than the fight. After all, anyone telling me mid-fight that Bug Light is the beer of choice is weird.

I think that would free up the commentators to provide more in depth information, which no one does better than Bas Rutten or Joe Rogan.

I get why they would do it the way they do it now in the beginning when they were a smaller production but they've hit the big time. It's probably time for them to have professionally prepared ads as part of their shows. They'd probably make more money off of it anyway.

Maybe we have different ideas as to what we want from our commentary but I find Bas and Rogan to be the only guys offering anything of value during the fights.

I'll take Kenny Florian over Golberg's mentally challenged ass for any fight.

I do miss Bas though. Bas and Joe Rogan would be the dream team.

HDL ‘Good Cholesterol’ Found Not to Cut Heart Risk by nomdewebin Health

[–]Fu_Man_Chu 0 points1 point ago

Because cholesterol isn't the problem. Acidic PH is.

Normally cholesterol is your friend, it helps you repair arteries. When you're acidic the cholesterol hardens during a repair job to one of your arteries, creates a plaque that once free get's lodged in one of the small arteries around the heart and THAT's what causes a heart attack.

Lowering your cholesterol isn't the answer to that problem though. Fixing your overall health and your PH is.

I used to feel the same way until I saw a Pollock in person. Something about the way he balanced the work and the sheer scale (they're really big) has an impact on you.

I know, I know. I sound like one of THOSE assholes who show you a piece of canvas with a few circles on it and proclaim it's worth 20 million dollars but seriously, Pollock's work is better than you'd think.

The "clowns" who are ruining the EDM scene. Not entirely sure I agree with everything this guy says... Thoughts? by heres_one_for_yain electronicmusic

[–]Fu_Man_Chu -1 points0 points ago

Listen it's not terribly complicated. The same thing happened to HipHop (and rock n roll if I'm not mistaken). Once upon a time Hiphop was about parties, it was about dance, it was about culture, it was about what was happening in the crowd. The DJ, the MC, all of that was just there to facilitate what was going on in the crowd.

The same thing was true of EDM or what was once the "Rave" scene. Sure we had a DJ but it was all secondary to what was going on in the event. We had our own language, our own dances, our own ideas. We were an actual culture unto ourselves. There was also infinitely more effort put into the production off stage (IE what was going on in the crowd) than there was on stage.

However, much like what happened to HipHop that has been reversed. Now all of the time and energy goes into making sure the stage is the center of the evening and slowly but surely the culture forgets why it was getting together in the first place.

And you misunderstand why I apologize for sounding arrogant. I'm not necessarily concerned with being arrogant more so I feel sorry for people who view others as such. It's been my experience that people overly concerned with another man's arrogance have self esteem issues. It's very "beta" in the modern vernacular. That's an altogether different discussion though.

My point remains, you guys really missed out on something amazing. That's nothing to fret about mind you. I missed out on the 60s, we all miss out on something. The only disconcerting part is that at least for guys like me is that we get to watch it decay until it's little more than a zombie dressed up with pretty lights and heavy make up made to dance around on stage for all to see. That's not your problem though because like I said, you don't have enough perspective to see it. It's like walking into a theater during the middle of a movie, you're missing some important plot points.

I'm one of the guys that was there at the beginning. So I have something called perspective, that's all.

I'm sorry if it sounds really arrogant... but you guys really did miss out on something amazing.
