Hippy festivals and the free market by Johngvpin Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]EternalArchon 1 point2 points ago

Just a friendly note: I'm no grammar nazi, but the use of almost zero punctuation makes this post difficult to read.

In regards to your theme, its a good point, but the really had part is conveying this idea to a Muggle without pure confusion. Markets are associated with ideas like 'capitalism' and 'corporations.' People think about timecards, cubicles, 401Ks, insurance plans, and expensive suits. The organic trade you discuss seems stored in a radically different part of their brain.

I've found the reverse is true with more conservative types, they defend capitalism sometimes, but I doubt they could even connect this concept to even mild underground/black markets- let alone drugdealers.

Will non-violent parenting work? by well_met_sirin Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]EternalArchon 0 points1 point ago

It seems logical that parenting matters little in the context of sending a child 50+ hours a week to a school. Direct violence is rarely used in schools, but dictatorial threats and humiliation are daily methods of keeping order.

Libertarian Double Standards by PsyErryDayin Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]EternalArchon 1 point2 points ago

I could could come up a ton of flowery language and complex rational... but I decided to really think about your question. I think the truth is: state-unions touch our lives in a far more immediate and visceral way. Its not the whole equation, but a big part.

  • I spent years in a public school, almost suicidally depressed- some kids were mean, but they weren't the problem, I could at least I return the pain with verbal vengeance, fight back. The worst part of school was the incapable, boring, dictatorial, and downright nasty teachers. Their ability to turn a subject like biology, the study of life itself, into pathetic vocabulary stamp-collection is grotesque. So when I hear how they deserve more money, I feel enraged. I'm an extreme example, but the theme is common. Even those who enjoyed school greatly, but enter the real world without applicable skills, feel betrayed. Home owners get that school tax bill in the mail, feeling the pain of stolen money.

  • I think its the same way for many of these other unions- interactions with this poor service breeds absolute contempt. I spent an hour filling in a comically large form at the DMV, to hear I needed a WXRN22L and not a WXRM22L form. Get back in line son. That's common

  • I doubt it takes many horror stories from any of these unions- like postal workers, bus drivers, TSA, transportation workers- to start developing a bad association.

  • I think that's why the AMA and Correctional Officer union are really the most powerful unions. Doctors have very beneficial interactions while costs are hidden through insurance(the anger becomes directed at HMOs). And most people don't deal with prison guards, and many who do lose the right to even vote.

I think this "bias" is far more rational than it seems. Hell yes, in terms of principle it may be the same. In terms of finances corporate lobbing may be an even greater form of wealth distribution. But honestly, in your own individual life- your happiness, which means more? Which would more radically change your life?

Some people take this mentality wrong. Not saying you- being resolute in values is a virtue, but undeviating adherence to a particular strategy is stupidity.

If at first you don't succeed, try, try again. Then quit. There's no point in being a damn fool about it.

This has the whole Atlas Shrugged appeal, but its much easier to move your money, instead of moving yourself.

That said, an easier move I like: benefits of moving to New Hampshire

I have to write a 5 page research essay on a novel and I chose Atlas Shrugged. What to write about? (It has to be literary analysis - themes, symbols, etc.) by mmoniotin Objectivism

[–]EternalArchon 1 point2 points ago

The theme that everyone loves or hates about Atlas Shrugged: "good men are agents in creation of their own lives." Success or failure generally results from personal choices (no lottery tickets, random illnesses, etc), very little shown of how they were raised as children with parents completely absent(except one sentence from d'anconia's dad) or family life(except negative influences that must be shoved off in the case of Rearden or Dagny and her wonderful bro)- characters are fully formed or completely shed old lives with little regret. Most literary critics consider good characters to be logical products of their environment, world, and history. Ayn Rand replaces that traditional grounding with characters driven by only philosophical motivation (which is seen more in Russian classics).

Anybody else kinda tired of r/politics' hate of Ayn Rand? by MisterAwesome333in Libertarian

[–]EternalArchon -1 points0 points ago

DEATHMATCH:

  • r/politics constantly talking about rand's EVIL influence on politics and finance. HELL YEAH everyone KNOWS no banker or politician was greedy until reading AYN RAND! They were all selfless saints until then! You see, Rand who never shut up about the Gold-Standard was like totally behind Alan Greenspan running the federal reserve! Yeh!

        versus

  • r/atheism WORSHIPING Colbert(catholic) Stewart(Jewish) Carl Sagan(barely agnostic)... and most of all LOVING Mr. C-dog Hitchens, so brave for arguing for atheism! Swoon. Oh, but that pre-feminism immigrant woman, who was a CHAMPION of american atheism? She has been excommunicated, anyone who mentions her is latae sententiae along with those who question the infallibility of the Divine Progressive Doctrine, amen!

P.S honestly though I hated ayn rand until I read fountainhead.

P.P.S. honestly I still hated her after reading fountainhead, but Atlas Shrugged was worth it just for the d'anconia money speech.

From what I heard, the states were Mitt Romney was predicted to to well were pushed into WINNER-takes-all format, but the ones where he was projected to do poorly were pressured by the National Republican leadership to move to a delegate system where even if Mitt lost there, he could pick up a few delegates. It was also assumed that he could use his massive money advantage and insider connections to squeeze out even more delegates post vote.

The Paul campaign has taken advantage of these non-binding straw-polls more effectively than the Romney Camp has... which drives the republican leadership insane.

Who (from a libertarian viewpoint) is the worst ever President of the United States? by spatchcockin Libertarian

[–]EternalArchon 0 points1 point ago

I don't think Lincoln is the devil, but the whole Great Emancipator and best president since Washington thingy is insane:

I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races; that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say, in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And in as much as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I as much as any other man am in favor of having the superior position assigned to the white race.

Victimless Crimes: At what point do laws meant to curb endangerment cross the line of morality? by Dippamusin Objectivism

[–]EternalArchon 2 points3 points ago

When NY state went from 55mph to 65mph there were extreme worries of tons of people dying. However, the number of deaths went down. Why? Two reasons:

1) The vast majority of people are not joy ridding. They are going somewhere. The faster their speed the less time they spend on the road. Longer someone is on a road, the greater chance a mistake is made. There is also less congestion if there are less people on the road.

2) Highways in america were designed for extremely fast speeds. They have banking, slow turns, etc.

One must be very careful of preventive law because the people making them are generally idiotic politicians who don't know the first thing about science, reason, or engineering. Vast majority is just fear-mongering bullshit. There might be a role for 'Clear and Present Danger', but we're so far from that as a country now its almost not worth discussing.
