Let him know that you feel neglected and unloved. Let him know that you need more attention, love, and companionship. He, in fact, can get his mind around primary and secondary relationships. His intuitions about fairness are getting in the way of your happiness.

If a polyamorous arrangement with a OPP works for him, and makes his partners happy, who are we to say that polyamory is not right for him?

The question is how much can examining a preference effect the preference. My visceral disgust reaction when encountering bodily effluvia is not something that will not disappear after examination. The million dollar question is: are some types of jealousy like this visceral disgust reaction.

If you are prescribing suspending judgment. I would agree. Remaining agnostic on the issue is probably wise. The origins and malleability of our preferences are ethically relevant. So it is important to actually find out what the facts are.

Please do not ignore salient distinctions.

A) Emotions that can be "reasoned" with.

B) Emotions that cannot be "reasoned" with.

Ought Implies Can: Ethical formula ascribed to Immanuel Kant, meaning that if an agent is morally obliged to perform a certain action he must logically be able to perform it.

If a preference exists and is ineluctable, we have no right to ignore it when creating our social arrangements.

Better analogy: I like vanilla sex. My partner likes vanilla sex and BDSM. So... we don't have BDSM sex because of my preference.

I like X

My partner likes X and Y

My partner doing Y bothers me

So we only do X.

This formula is applicable to both a an OPP and the BSDM example I just gave.

I don't even want an OPP, or think they are a good idea. I just think our arguments against them should stand up to scrutiny.

Suppose after rigorous study we found that this discomfort had nothing to do with the oppression of women, but rather was just a part of the suite of emotions he was born with. No matter how egalitarian his worldview, there remained this asymmetry in his preferences. What would you say to this person?

Some people might see jealousy as analogous to fear of airplanes. Given enough evidence about the safety in an airplane, one should be less afraid. If there is no danger, one shouldn't be afraid.

However, I am suggesting that some types of jealousy could be more analogous to disgust of feces. It is not clear to me that there is anything you could say to me that would make me not disgusted by feces.

Telling someone to change, when they cannot is both foolish and unethical.
