Indiana's Republican election chief found guilty of voter fraud by scientologist2in news

Seems to me the only reason you'd build a voting machine that way (stores tallies, not votes) is if you intend to rig elections.

Meaningful voter fraud - voting more than once in an election - is practically nonexistent.

It has been replaced with the more modern, "Make a diebold machine show whatever results you want."

Near unanimous support? This tells me the bill will do nothing to hurt the representatives' bottom line. Perhaps the next one should ban overpaid speaking gigs and hiring former representatives as lobbyists.

Just wanted to say you've really surprised me as an actor. On Cheers I thought that your bit part was what you were about, but the range you've shown since then on films like Natural Born Killers, Zombieland, and No Country For Old Men has been very impressive. Anyway, not really a question but kudos.

Why use the term African-American? by questionTimeELIFin explainlikeimfive

[–]DarkGamer 1 point2 points ago

I never claimed it was hard to find a synonym. I'm claiming that classifying a word as inappropriate simply because it sounds like a different, unrelated word is senseless and foolish.

But the one thing that black folks can be sure of is that their ancestry lies in Africa, which itself has a strong, and vibrant history. And the term African American is an effort to connect the black Americans living in the United States today to the same rich and full ancestral background that men and women who were not enslaved get to enjoy.

The culture of American blacks is very different from that of African culture. An interesting example of this is the conflict that arose when in 1816, a popular movement emerged at the time with the goal of repatriating freed blacks to their ancestral homeland. An American colony was planned in Africa, a constitution drafted modeled after the US constitution, and boats of former slaves were sent to colonize. The black American colonists did not mix with their African counterparts and there were essentially 2 societies there, which went to war with each other many times. The result of this experiment is Liberia, which is still a fragmented society even today.

This is the euphemism treadmill at work. The same thing happened (in the US) with "cripple"

Also, "retard." Despite the fact that it's a perfectly valid and descriptive term such people are now simply "special." (Not like those functional people who are good special, though.)

if you were a waiter and after work you told your roommate, "I had a large party of black people today" the associated stereotypes (loud, demanding, small tip) could be implied.

Such a roommate would imply stereotype no matter what euphemism you use.

That's silly. Pretending race doesn't exist in the name of political correctness does no one any favors, especially those who are discriminated against because of it.

Better to simply teach people to judge one another as individuals and not impose or presume racial stereotypes.

I refuse to communicate when ebonics is employed by the other conversant, since I believe that one of the reasons for the current world decay (leading to suffering, diseases, death, pollution, consumerism, mass-manipulation, etc.) is the negroisation of the Western civilisation that has taken place during the last 80 years. Would you perhaps care to rephrase your question?

  • "U mad, bro?" is an internet meme and has nothing to do with negros

  • You, sir, are an ignorant racist and I no longer wish to communicate with such a person. Good day.
