The pattern reminded me of solar panels, or what solar panels would look like if they were integrated into living tissue. That might also explain the glowing blue light it seemed to emit. If that camera is really a mile bellow then it would make sense for a creature to try and scavenge light, because there isn't much at that depth. Also it's composition would allow it to survive at almost any depth and I would place it as an ancestor to the jelly fish... But this is just my wild speculation.
