"I'm not a neo-nazi, but"--Holocaust denier speaks up in r/history, further down is revealed to be white supremacist. by InfinitelyThirstingin SubredditDrama

Yep, found someone asking for book recommendations in /r/anarcho_capitalism, I was taken aback when he praised The Bell Curve, told him to read Mismeasure of Man, and he called Jay Gould a fraud. Needless to say I've been put off by politics for a while now.

Aang did it before he took Ozai's firebending away. Ozai stepped into an attack stance, Aang felt it, and dodged.

Because you are criticizing the violence AND the sex, which is part of the entire series. If the books were about, something else entirely, then the needless addition of sex and violence would be "uncalled for", but GRRM has made it a point to show violence and sex as part of the world they live in.

But sex, in particular, do not show a person's true colors. Sorry to disappoint, but having sex is a way to kill time, and the people in a Song of Ice and Fire have a LOT of time to kill.

I'm talking about Houston, which is also in Texas. And a reminder for all the people that think Austin is the only bastion of progressive thought.

Texas has a gay major, a bike rental system, good music venues and great food. This ignorant bullshit pisses me off.

US elections: Why does the world's greatest democracy offer just two choices? by TommyCollinsin TrueReddit

Considering California (one of the largest states is chronically broke) you should reconsider that statement.

Because they will surely stay that way considering that as new GPUs get released, the more affordable lower end GPUs become that can play high end games decently.

Do you favor socialism? Do you favor a collectivist approach? by GeneralPuddingin PoliticalDiscussion

[–]Choppa790 1 point2 points ago

And you are assuming that socialists are not acting for their own gain? Let's say tomorrow America abandons capitalism and adopt socialism; what's next? who do we look up to, if not the socialists ideologues.

Are socialists incapable of acting for their own gain?

Are all acts out of self-interest bad? If I have an interest in improving education and creating a net social good, does the fact I am doing it out of self-interest makes me a bad person?

My previous comment shows a socialist institution (nationalized resource management) being corrupted by basic, prevalent human behavior. So unless ALL socialists attained enlightenment and are now unmoved by earthly possessions, how would the system work well?

And yet you continue to prop up the system.

They already sell themselves to the highest bidder, that's how natural resources leases work. The question is why should we continue to prop up a failing federal bureaucracy, what is so anathema about selling all the land to groups of buyers and let them decide what to do with the land? Why aren't there any environmentalist co-ops trying to buy land from the federal government, rather than just trying to block normal operations?

Capitalism is not a zero-sum game. You'd ought to find a better argument than "there's losers"

How is the child being crippled the fault of the free market?

But discussing your point, if you look at the standard of living of someone that's handicapped in the United States (a somewhat free market economy) and countries with centralized governments, then I much rather be crippled in America than in North Korea. There was a documentary about a doctor that did several hundred surgeries on people with cataracts in North Korea, they lived their entire lives in squalor and ignorance, and what's the first thing they have to do when they open their eyes? Look at portraits of Kim Jong Il.

Hell, even people with mobile disabilities are better off in the United States. There are the new exoskeletons being developed, prosthetic legs made for running, etc.

How the Conservative Worldview Quashes Critical Thinking -- and What That Means For Our Kids' Future by PinkSlimeIsPeoplein education

[–]Choppa790 -1 points0 points ago

The irony of saying conservatism is:

that human beings are essentially fallen and deeply flawed. Human beings are swayed by uncontrollable passions, we make consistently bad choices, and we are incapable of governing ourselves. Given our basic depravity, civilization can only work if we submit ourselves to the external guidance of society's appointed authorities; and stay on the straight and narrow path our betters have clearly marked out with rules, oversight and punishments.

And the left wing (and right wing) are continuously creating new laws, rules, and regulations in order to mark their authority as society's guide.
