I understand your comment and it's true that many teachers rely on memorization (though, to be honest, if you can't memorize at all then you're in trouble - reading, addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc. are pretty much all rooted in initial memorization) however this test was to see if kids COULD think on their feet. The question asks to choose a type of "green" energy and explain a benefit. This kid didn't "think outside the box" or something. He didn't even NOT memorize. He just gave a smart alec answer.
