Thank you for the clarification. Now I'm compelled to ask more questions than be satisfied with the answers given.

I ask this with an open mind and without intention to troll: But what about the Obama administration? Some argue that his policies are socialist or will lead to socialism? Is that argument a slippery slope fueled by fear mongering or is there any truth to that? Does not our form of democracy, whether republican or democrat controlled, exhibit some elements of socialism?

That was an interesting read, but was not the USSR a strictly communist nation? What about the modern Scandinavian regions? What about Germany? Do they not successfully govern with a non-oppressive form of socialism or am I totally misunderstanding their type of government?

I overheard a debate where someone argued that "countries that have had socialist regimes have all failed". I don't necessarily agree with this statement as I've heard Norway and Sweden are doing quite well as nations. But I guess what I'm looking for is an independent non-partisan credible study that can claim that socialism, for certain countries anyway, have been a successful way to govern. Does a study even exist?
