Russia, Japan aim for the Moon: "We're talking about establishing permanent bases." by mepperin science

[–]Axemantitan 9 points10 points ago

When President Kennedy addressed Congress and announced his intention of "landing a man on the moon and returning him safely to the Earth," the US had, by that point, only sent Alan Shepard into a sub-orbital hop. We achieved Kennedy's goal, and we were starting with far inferior technology and experience than Japan has now.

Edit: Slight fix on the Kennedy quote.

Researcher: US Planned "New Finland" for Refugees in Alaska by madmc326in history

However the plan became bogged down because of opposition from Alaskans in Congress.

Alaska was a territory, not a state, at the time. I thought territories didn't have representation in Congress?

A multitude of questions from a hormone infested teenager. by NillaWaffersin AskWomen

I lost my virginity late (29). She was younger than me, but more experienced. She intimated to me that she wanted to sleep with me on the first day we were together as a couple. I was afraid of pushing her too fast and losing her. We had been dating for a week before we were officially a couple. We didn't sleep with each other the second day we were together either. We had only made out by this point.

On the third day together, while making out in the kitchen of her house, I calmly and coolly told her, "If you ever want to go beyond kissing, let me know." She replied, "Do you want to see my bedroom?" I was thinking, "Absolutely! Definitely! Yes!", but I calmly answered, "Yes." We went up to her bedroom, talked and started kissing and undressing each other. Once we were completely naked, I paused and asked her if she wanted to go all the way. She said that she did and we had sex.

I would recommend learning to properly wear a condom when you do finally have sex. It's much less expensive than Plan B and takes the burden of birth control off of her (a lot of girls, especially when they are young, might be afraid of asking you to use a condom.)

More importantly, don't be in a hurry. I was more than twice your age when I lost my virginity. While I don't recommend waiting until 29, 14 is too young to start, in my opinion. Wait until both you and your partner are sure.

As for how to make it better for your partner, learn how to perform oral properly and, most importantly, communicate with her. Find out what she likes and doesn't like and tell her likewise about yourself. Knowing both how to please each other and each other's limits are paramount.

Even though this is AskWomen, would you accept an answer from a man, as well?

I agree. Even the East German Army looked better (except for the Koopa Troopa helmets) than the Bundeswehr.

What kinds of options and benefits are there to joining the Military straight out of college? by McSpudingtonJrin Military

The Department of Defense has a Loan Repayment Program. In lieu of the GI Bill, you can take this and they will pay off your student loans in 3 annual installments up to a total of $65,000. Make sure that your Officer Selection Officer (officer recruiter) knows that you want this when you talk to him.

Not the best slogan for an anti-rape orginization by smokinbud420in funny

I thought it came from the expression, "There's no reason to ever rape." This makes it look they are creating a reason.

Exactly why the metric system is superior. There is a conversion guide at Wikipedia. 12 gauge corresponds to 18.53 mm.

Actually, if you are talking about shotguns, gauge is slightly more complex. What it means is that if you were to take a lead ball with the same diameter as the barrel, it would take that many lead balls to equal one pound. For example, a 12-gauge shotgun would fit a lead ball that weighs 1/12 pound. A 20-gauge barrel would fit a lead ball that weighs 1/20 pound. Therefore, a 12-gauge shotgun is larger than a 20-gauge shotgun. It's the same principle, but instead of fractions of an inch, it is fractions of a pound.

I had a conversation about this with a friend here in the US a few days ago. We were looking at kitchen fixtures whose metal thickness was measured in "gauge." It turns out that gauge is a fraction of an inch, so, for example, 16 gauge is thicker than 20 gauge. We both agreed that if it were measured in millimeters, it would make more sense.

It's not as bad as the people I've heard say, "It turned out it was all a dream." No, it wasn't! They were in the afterlife, not a dream, and even that was only half of the last season!

I have seen AK-74 styled muzzle brakes on 7.62x39mm rifles. It is not the exact same brake, but the same basic design. It is simply scaled up for the larger caliber. There is even a muzzle brake for the Mosin-Nagant M44 (7.62x54mmR) that is also an upscaled '74 muzzle brake.

Thank you. It appears that they have excellent ratings. The one particular computer that I was looking at seemed too good to be true (or else other vendors are overcharging.)
