Ever read a book you couldn't have loathed more, but you couldn't stop? by vader311in books

[–]Alfro 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I kept hoping for something to happen but it was so slow and painful to read! I had to put it down after like 100 pages of nothing and I didn't read anything for months.

reddit, I've answered a lot your questions about being deaf, and I'd like you to return the favor. I have some questions about hearing. (Also, you can AMA about deafness) by Deafyin AskReddit

Are you kidding? You just wrote a perfectly eloquent and well organized paragraph. Not to mention those questions you had at the beginning were astounding. If you want to write a book you could perfectly do it, just do it for yourself and not to impress anyone.

Classics are mattering less and less to writers by erisexlibrisin books

[–]Alfro 1 point2 points ago

Well that's understandable, with so many books available nowadays there really isn't a point in re-reading so much. Unless, of course, you really liked it.

This is good: Amazon kills the book review star and democratizes the conversation around books and reading by clintonkin books

Goodreads is also a very good source of reviews, I like having the ability to follow reviewers that you find insightful, not to mention your friends' opinions as well.

I don't know about this, a good writer usually knows his classics.

Episode Discussion - 2.06 "The Old Gods and the New" [TV Spoilers] by libbykinoin gameofthrones

I'd actually like the story in the series to be different from the books to a certain extent. It adds the drama of not knowing who is going to die all over again.

World War Z, read it, thought it was average at best. Why does everyone love it so much? by aka_Foamyin books

[–]Alfro 0 points1 point ago

I agree, just read it too. I felt it was toilsome and repetitive. There were a couple of good stories in it but most kinda sucked. The author's tone was exhausting and I there wasn't really a plot. Also the it ended badly for me. However I will agree that some of the points were interesting and I did finish the book so it can't be all that bad, even if you could have summed it up with a lot less beating around the bush. Overall 3.5 I'd say.

What books do you feel are essential for a person to read? Classics/non-classics? by madskilletsin books

[–]Alfro 1 point2 points ago

I read the time machine, why do you think it was essential? It was a good tale at best.
