New trailer for "The Great Gatsby" by welltheresAbaconin movies

[–]AlfRGB 1 point2 points ago

Lyrics aside, there are far more songs in the time period of "The Great Gatsby" that would suit it better than, "Human beings in a mob What's a mob to a king? What's a king to a God? What's a God to a non-believer who don't believe in anything?" which has already been in a few movies that fit the period piece more so.

But, what a circlejerk has to do with my own opinion is beyond me. However, to stay in style with Reddit, "Because if anyone in YOUR circlejerk bothered to research the themes of the movie you'd understand why it's ridiculous to have that song in the trailer"

Please. For a time piece movie, why have Kanye West and Jay-Z as the intro song, instead of Bing Crosby or something more fitting?

I'll still see it, but this trailer didn't sell it well at all.

An interesting article about Michael Fassbender and his rise to fame by Triumph_4_Evain movies

[–]AlfRGB 2 points3 points ago

After two decades of obscurity, all it took was a few choice roles to get noticed—a Nazi infiltrator here, an X-Men villain there, plus one unforgettable turn in Shame that made him a full-frontal phenomenon. His rapid rise continues this month with Ridley Scott's Alien prequel, Prometheus. But as Chris Heath discovers, Michael Fassbender is more than the sum of his parts

Regardless of my opinions on the two movies, I think Avengers will make more than TDKR. by FRIZBIZin movies

[–]AlfRGB 0 points1 point ago

Yeah. Die hard fans will go see it (myself included), partners of those fans, others curious for a sci-fi thriller that's rated R, and those just going because of the word-of-mouth. If anything, it's pulling 40-50 million opening weekend.

This won't even come close to top 10. But, I'll still try and get it there by seeing it multiple times.

I'm glad you enjoyed Lockout! I wish more people gave it a chance. I saw it on opening night, and there were 10 people in the theater with us, all laughing at the right times. It was the only movie in a long time that I felt confident in letting it live for 1 1/2 hours. I didn't want to rip it apart, criticize it, or over-analyze things.

Lockout 4/5, April 13th, 2012

I went in expecting a B movie, and I was treated to a B movie experience. The dialogue was stifling, the CG made Reboot the TV show look like Pixar, the premise was ridiculous, the script was ludicrous, but it never ventured outside of an element it fully knew it lived in, and for that I had an absolute rip-roaring time. Some of the 1 liners are so out-there that you can't help but laugh at its sheer attempt at creativity.

Lockout did not try to sell, or force anything other than the fact that it's a movie. If we cannot accept it for the moment it exists, then why bother accepting an art-house film that tries to convey emotions through a celo solo?

Lockout is the one movie this year that I didn't want to rip apart, or talk about after the fact. It existed for 1 hour and 30 minutes, and had me laughing at it's ridiculousness. I had a great time.

Shame 3.7/5 , April 15th, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie for its acting, aesthetics, musical theme, and filming approach to something comparable to watching a master predator hunt for his prey. However, there were aspects that bothered me slightly, such as the missed story opportunities, long sexual scenes that revealed very little, to the unknowing premise of why they aren't "bad people".

The Deep Blue Sea 4.25/5, April 15th, 2012

I'll be honest. I love Rachel Weisz. Her beauty is only matched by how she handles characters that she knows are within her acting capabilities. This film had some gorgeous story telling techniques, such as when she (Hester) exhaled cigarette smoke, the camera trailed the smoke, only to enter into a back-story as to why Hester is in a depressive state. But, in the end, there were minor quirks with the film, ie., drags on at certain points, and the lack of "love" between Freddie and Hester.

Sherlock Holmes 2 3/5, April 17th, 2012

I didn't enjoy the first one, and this one only continued that trend. Noomi Rapace was wasted, Rachel McAdams was discarded half way through the movie only to be insulted by Sherlock Holmes anger toward John Watson getting married, the plot barely made sense, and this movies defining moment of being lost, and knowing its lost, was when Sherlock was seen riding a pony far behind the pack. Furthermore, for someone who's supposed to be Sherlock Holmes' intellectual equal, that was never shown at all in Professor James Moriarty's plot for world dominance, or through their telepathic conversation toward the end?

New Year's Eve 1/5, April 19th, 2012

No. Just no.

The Pelican Brief 2.85/5, April 21st, 2012

I thoroughly enjoy movies with a lot of talking heads, but there were elements of this movie that did not rub well with me. I don't know if it's Julia Roberts' acting, and her lack of showing emotion on her face when faced with danger, Denzel Washington's style of line delivery, the quick dismissal of the ending, to the odd use of racism. Twice in the movie there is clear racism toward Denzel, and I do not understand the point of it. Especially John Lithgow with the line that had me turning my head, "I thought of dropping you into the ranks of unemployment but I knew you'd slap with me a discrimination charge..." WHAT?!. But, this film did have some great camera pans, and use of angles.

Wrath of The Titans 1.5/5, April 21st, 2012

There's too much to rip apart. Such as, lack of story, no character development, terrible acting, a pointless bringing to life of Chronos, and what by Buddha do I LOATHE 3D as a result of this movie.

Batman Under The Red Hood 4/5, April 21st, 2012

Beautiful opening through the introduction of The Joker and his mad violence toward Batman and Robin. The story was dark, brutal, and only punctuated by seeing how Batman truly is through the refusal of cooperating with Nightwing.

Underworld 4 2/5, April 22nd, 2012

Paint by numbers story of Vampires, Liken, and the war between the two with humans idly standing by and watching. Absolutely generic.
