Pico Cão Grande, the strangest looking landmass in the world by PunchOfTheFalconin pics

You should look up some other images of them as well, they are quite incredible.

Another I wanted to include, but couldn't find a good picture of, is the tallest nearly vertical drop on the planet (Mount Thor is the tallest purely vertical drop), called Great Trango Tower in Pakistan. Interesting place...

I actually don't mind reposts. Reddit works by the votes of its users, and if enough users like something and upvote it, its fairly safe to say that they don't think its a major concern and in many cases don't even realise or care that its a repost. If you think (or know) something is a repost and you take offence to that, downvote it and move on.

The reason I commented is because I thought it was a bit odd for someone to be annoyed that someone reposted their repost, which was actually a repost itself.

Anyhow, well worded comment in any case. I laughed at least.

Hang on, did he just call someone else out for reposting his repost, which was in fact a repost of this post which may or may not be a repost itself?

Mount Thor, Trollveggen and Tindhólmur might have something to say about that.

TIL there is a guy who has trained for 5 years to take 1,100 lb of force to the groin via kick. by Ilex63in todayilearned

[–]Albertsson 0 points1 point ago

Now, why did he take "thousands of kicks to the testicles" over 5 years? Who wakes up in the morning and thinks; "Hmmm... you know what would be a good idea, a multi year training course where you get kicked in the balls so many times that you don't feel it anymore. It's not like there's a good reason it hurts or anything!"

From what I remember it is a pretty universal translation of it. Just having a quick look I've found this, it has various translations and they are all fairly consistent. I've been told that its because God needed to demonstrate his power, but I've also heard that some debate that it was the Pharaoh who wanted his own heart hardened... In any case, we can only go by the versions that we've seen and it says that God hardened his heart.

I can see where the story comes from, but it really is of a different time and it certainly isn't something that seems particularly moral now. In a modern sense, the idea that for the sins of some, an entire town except for one man is destroyed is gruesome and brutal, and in a modern sense where human life is valued to a far greater extent seems very over the top from an all loving creator. This is why many people see two different images of God when reading the Bible, because we find it hard to reconcile a God that is willing to kill everyone for the sins of some, and a God who sacrificed his only son (let's not get into this) to save us all.

Thank you Johnny for the enlightening debate. It was actually quite interesting, despite the people down voting you.

But we're not talking about this from the side of Universal Reconciliation, we're talking about it from the point of Sodom and Gomorrah.

Yes, I do know of the Buddhist "version of hell", however I don't see how this or Universal Reconciliation has anything to do with "God's actions" surrounding Sodom and Gomorrah. If you want we can move away from this and towards the completely different topic you're steering us toward.

But they were evil people were they not, does this not mean that they will be tortured for all of eternity? Even if its not the end as you say, if he does exist and if he did choose to allow the existence of a hell, then he is still punishing them rather than giving them a sign, or a way of changing their wicked ways.

Yes, that is how it is portrayed, but how is it right that for this the entire town is destroyed, everyone is killed. How is that moral?

You brought up the all knowing God...

There are some good things in the Bible, but much of it is not worth considering and the issue is the way it presents itself. Sadly much of what is good in the Bible these days is largely ignored as well. That said, most religions have good parts to them.

On topic though, I don't see how Sodom and Gomorrah has anything to do with any of the good parts. You can talk of symbolism, but I really don't get how it can be seen as a nice morality tale.

How was what I said irrelevant?

Also, I judge the book from a position of having read it. I don't care if it seemed okay historically, it has no place in the modern world and to derive morality from it as a whole is quite a strange concept to me.

Also, the only thing I ever found all that complicated in it was how it was self contradictory, but hey.

Like marrying your rapist, killing those who work on a particular day, mauling children for making fun of a particular person and killing the entirety of humanity by one family? Yeah, I see the morality there.

What do you mean strawman by the way? Where was the strawman in what I said?

God also created this woman, he created her and as he is all knowing he knows exactly what she would do. Did he create her only to do this to her for being only as he intended or at least knew she would be?

Wasn't there a study recently that suggested that all losses due to piracy in the movie industry, that is loss of sales that would have otherwise happened, were due to delayed releases?

I think it was this one. Surely similar logic would apply here.
