I think it's important to note that it says brothers. The bar for members of the same body (believers; the church) is different from others.

Nurse refuses student inhaler during asthma attack (teenager's mother finds him locked inside the nurse's office, unconscious on the floor.) by Sugar_Skullin politics

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

Wow, that's really dumb. What if you have an asthma attack (or, let's say, bee sting and need an epi-pen) on the way to and from school? If you're not allowed to have medication on you at school, obviously you can't have it with you to and from school either.

Ah, the sleeping kid explains much. That's possibly an hour or two otherwise trapped in the car.

Has using your Kindle affected your enjoyment of reading the dead tree books? by Rilkalin kindle

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

Well, given that the kindle is the size of a short paperback, would it be possible to carry it with you instead of leaving it in the car?

Although I find your habit a little bit curious. If you leave it in the car, then you're not reading it outside of the car. You read in your car, then? (I assume when it's stationary, as opposed to when you're driving it.)

I enjoy "Castle", but Beckett's shoes are ridiculous

I have thought this so many times while watching the show. "I'm going to go chase some baddies in a big, empty warehouse and hope I can get the jump on them" Shoes go clack clack clack

Me too. I was like who is this guy? I want to see what else he has done. Oh, so this guy is in Doctor Who?

And that is the story of how/why I started watching Doctor Who.

The REAL Girl Who Waited by kittbttfin doctorwho

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

I imagine not. The Doctor went straight from Roman time to Modern time to fetch Amy from the Pandorica.

The Doctor could have popped in to look in on Rory's ~2000 years while he was on his adventures later, but when River and the Doctor were comparing journals in The Impossible Astronaut, he was confused as to what they were doing. Amy had to explain to them that they kept meeting each other in the wrong order. Had the Doctor popped in on Rory every once in a while, you'd think he'd have understood the meeting in the wrong order thing.

The third season of the revival, or his third season?

Because if the third season (revival) makes you want to cry, just you wait till you watch the fourth season, which is the third and last of Tennant's. The word I use to describe them is depressing. I even posted about how depressing they were after I watched them.

It's a bit of a transition from one Doctor to the next, but you'll learn to love Matt Smith as the Doctor. He's definitely not the same Doctor, but a good one nonetheless.

It's kind of like how a widower loves and remarries a second husband/wife. It's not like the widower has stopped loving her first, late husband, or that the second husband has replaced the first. She loves both her husbands, but one is past and gone, and one is present and here.

Who would you like to see as a guest on a Doctor Who episode? by italia06823834in doctorwho

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

Given that the Doctor's scientific knowledge far exceeds what humanity has presently achieved in 2012, and has seen so many races hurtle past us as well, I don't think he would marvel all that much at our scientists of old. Kind of like how he got snarky with River when she introduced herself as an archaeologist.

The arts, however, is about humanity. It's not empirical or pure. It's emotional and relational, and that's something that the Doctor appreciates.

What I find weird about Amy/Rory as companions by Leigho7in doctorwho

[–]30percentAlpaca 1 point2 points ago

I understand what you mean, but Donna wanted to give up her normal life to be with the Doctor forever; she loved the Doctor. Not in a romantic way, no, but certainly in a best friend way.

So far I haven't had a romantic relationship that's worked out, so I can't speak to that, but my friend relationships are much more important to me than my family ones. I think it's really nice for people whose families are close and actually family-like, but for people like me, where family are just the people you happen to be genetically surrounded by, true blue friend relationships that are forged with intention are the real deal.

I thought that the 'behind the scenes' Doctor Who Confidential type special that aired right before it was much better than the actual finale itself.

If not DVDs, first thing that comes to mind is Sonic Screwdriver. They can actually be useful.

The other day I'd lost my pen and later the same day I needed a flashlight. I thought of the sonic screwdriver pen with flashlight, and (as I stumbled and nearly fell) regretted not having one.

We're the most downloaded show...legally! by MercurySchultzin doctorwho

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

I find the difference between the two lists to be very interesting, and would love to know what accounts for it. I see that HIMYM and Big Bang Theory are not on the legal list at all, but fairly high on the illegal list. People are less willing to pay for comedy, but more for drama?

Has using your Kindle affected your enjoyment of reading the dead tree books? by Rilkalin kindle

[–]30percentAlpaca 2 points3 points ago

I found the non-flatness of pages to be horridly annoying. Being that pages are bound on one side at the spine, there is a bend in the page there where there are other pages beneath the one you are reading. This has been much worse for paperbacks, as I do not like to "crack" or crease the spines of my books, so I end up bending the cover and pages quite a bit.

I'll read a bound paper book if I have to (not available in e-format), but there's not a single doubt that I much prefer the flat screen. I suppose scrolls actually would not have this problem.

A side effect of reading all my novels on the Kindle by Rene_Lockerin kindle

There's really no point in fighting it. Improper usage, perpetuated enough, will become common, then acceptable, then proper usage. For example, American spelling of a lot of words that differ from other English speaking commonwealth countries.

I'm not into MA myself, but I think focusing on losing the fat and getting into shape in general first will help more. Psychologically, if you try doing MA type stuff, you're going to always compare where you are now with where you were before, and it's going to be discouraging. If you lose weight by trying something different, you don't have a bar to compare to, and any new achievements will actually be new bars reached, rather than falling short of your old place.

New 3-book Box Set tied into the Harry Potter Series in the coming year!!! by piratepixiein harrypotter

[–]30percentAlpaca 0 points1 point ago

I'm curious, but not particularly too excited because I don't know what it is yet.

If not actually Tales of Beedle the Bard, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch through the ages, I'm guessing it's going to be similar to these - books "from" the Wizarding world. A number of them are mentioned in those three books already released, and I wouldn't be surprised if she actually went ahead and wrote them too.

But even though I say I'm not excited, I'm still going to buy them (unless re-release) for sure. But I'm actually more excited about her new book that we already know about coming in September. I can't wait to see how she writes for adults; I bet it's amazing.
