If pterodactyls were still around, could they support a human's weight? (self.reddit.com)

I'd like to saddle up one of those mean fuckers. Wouldn't that be awesome?! HIGH FIVE!

There is no such thing as a pterodactyl. They are called pterosaurs with categories of Pterodactylus, Pteranodon and Quetzalcoatlus. With all kinds of species under each.
Pterodactylus were smaller about the size of our birds today, with wingspans up to 3 feet and weighed any where from 2 to 10 pounds. Wouldn't be able to ride one of those mothers.
Pteranodon, probably what every thinks of when they hear the word Pteradactyl. It had wingspans upwards of 6 to 8 feet and weighed 35 to 50 pounds. Would probably be a good ride for smaller humans such as toddlers.
Quetzalcoatlus the king ass of the flying chickens. It had wingspans of 40 feet+ and probably weighed around 200 pounds. Ride on you crazy mofo, ride on.
edit: because I wanted to

European or African Pterodactyls?
[–]anomoly 8 points9 points10 points 1 year ago
Wait a minute, suppose two pterodactyls carried you together.
[–]PropMonkey 4 points5 points6 points 1 year ago
No, they'd have to have him on a line.

Laden or unladen?

Did anyone else feel sorry for Jake Sully's first bird thing when he got the second, bigger bird thing? It seemed pretty harsh. I know you're bonded to me for life but I've found someone else? Problem?

I just thought Toruk Makto taking down a helicopter was awesome.

A++ would ride again
[–]hopstar 2 points3 points4 points 1 year ago
Probably not, but even if it could it would soon grow tired of you, throw you to the ground, and ptero you a new asshole.

This is a really important question. If we ever want to move to a flinstone's style dino powered economy these sort of questions MUST be answered.
Let us stop relying on fossil fuels and start relying on reincarnated genetically manipulated dinosaurs!

Good lord. How have I gone 26 years without knowing the answer to this question?
[–]Salvor_Hardin 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
They could definitely support the weight of Whiplash: The Cowboy Monkey.
[–]bigsquish 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
A modern human?
[–]Defenestratio 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
That was a very happy thought. Thank you.
[–]deeperest 0 points1 point2 points 1 year ago
Not a chance. The incredible thing about the Quetzalcoatlus, the largest of all flying reptiles and probably the biggest thing that has EVER flown on earth, is that it had the wingspan of a small plane but still weighed about the same as ME.
It sure would LOOK like it could carry a person, but there is no way you could double its weight and still stay airborne.

I doubt it, they weren't much bigger than the condors and great eagles we have today, and they are luck if they can pick up a 35lb goat.
