Once I rooted I found that I could no longer use the amazon streaming service or the kindle reader app (the one thing I was disappointed in when I rooted it). I know there is a way to fix this, I have just been too lazy to do it. Since my fiance has a nook I installed the nook reader app from the android marketplace and have had no problems using it.

I've been using the Voodoo OTA Root Keeper app to disable root when I want to use the streaming service; when you're done it allows you to restore root with the push of a button.

Since I have only played with the kindle one only slightly I have to say I prefer the nook one, but that's probably because I have been using it on my Nexus s for about six months and I am pretty familiar with the app all around. I think the Kindle one is more user friendly (easier to navigate through) for someone who hasn't used a reader app though.

I don't, what I did was root my KF and then installed the android market and downloaded it there.

After a little googling it looks like it can be found without much effort.

You don't have to root your KF to use the Nook reader. I was able to install it by visiting Handango.com and emailing myself a download link.

Open the download link from the KF's email reader and it will download to the Fire's file system. Navigate to the downloads folder using a file browser and run the .apk file.

I just blogged about it here.

I just rooted my KF last night so I'm still exploring it, but rooting your Fire with BurritoRoot will allow you to unroot and root it at a press of a button. Its pretty nice.

Yeah, the unroot didn't bring back the streaming. Even a "Factory Restore" and a dozen reboots won't bring back the streaming. I should have waited till my free 30 day Prime had runout. :(

Ack! As soon as I posted it, I tried to unroot and found that streaming still didn't work. A little more googling and I found an app that should help. Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. It'll temporarily unroot (like really) and after a reboot my streaming worked.

i just put the kindle app from the android market on it after rooting. works well enough.
