Pokemon is targeted towards children younger than Pokemon itself.

According to what I have read on reddit lately it is all the rage with twenty somethings. I personally don't know anyone who talks about pokemon except the extremely loud emo kid in one of my classes.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

That's because they're all too busy playing it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Yes, but it's not marketed towards them. They were kids when Pokemon was first popular, hence the two peaks of age popularity.

[–]Mysteryman64 0 points1 point ago

You don't talk about it normally, you just kinda play it and sometimes talk about it when you get really drunk/high.

When out having dinner with a friend one time, the topic of conversation gravitated towards a couple seated nearby. A middle-aged male, with a very young looking Asian girl, with whom he seemed to be romantically involved.

I ended up saying something along the lines of "you know, sometimes I think that perhaps the girl I'm looking for is out there, only that she's just now being born. I guess I shouldn't worry so much, I have my whole life ahead of me .... and so does she."

[–]Silvard 6 points7 points ago

Want to feel old, wait until you have a conversation with a younger person and they not only haven't watched a movie you consider a classic from your teen years, they never even heard about it. You use a movie reference and they just stare at you in confusion.

I say this at least 2 to 3 times a week in the hopes that SOMEONE SOMEWHERE will know where the quote is from. So far only my brother has gotten it. It has been nearly 5 years since I started. If the next person who knows it is a girl, I will marry her.

This reminds me of a fun story :)

One of my former classmates was at a 3 days festival called Roskilde Festival. I'm pretty sure this is the largest festival in Scandinavia, with over 60.000 people there. Anyways, at the Roskilde Festival in 2000 around 3 people died at a Pearl Jam performance. The mood at the festival went pretty down hill, and every one was at a shitty mood. Then he remembered that the following night was the Diablo II lauch night, so they left the biggest festival in Scandinavia, to go to the Diablo II midnight lauch.

TL;DR: A friend of mine left the biggest festival in Scandinavia, to go to the Diablo II midnight lauch.

Yeah, mine is the Fifth Element. 1997, man I am in love with this movie. There is just something about it that attracts me to it, I can never get bored watching it. Especially the parts where Korben is in NYC. I don't know what it is, maybe it is because when the movie came out, I saw the world differently than I do now. Everything was beautiful to me back then....now not so much, actually nothing attracts me about our world now. It is depressing really, everything I believed in is gone, there is no hope for our world, especially for me. Everything I saw as a kid is a lie, it was all artifical, I have learned to look deeper into beauty, and I see nothing but lies, deception, cruelity, racism, hate, everything that is morally wrong wrapped around an illusion to make you believe that there is a beauty to see. But, now I know the whole world functions on lies, deception, and hate. I hate this world.

I watched the original Clash of the Titans on Betamax when I was 6. I saw Indiana Jones 3 in the theatres when I was 11. I played Civilization I when I was 13.

Huh? I'm still trying to beat Battletoads. I vowed to not play any other game until I finished battletoads.

Why? Did Battletoads 2 come out or something?

I posted this already somewhere, but it's appropriate here. Windows XP is now just as old as Windows 3.11 was when XP came out.

I try not to live in the past. While there were nice things back then worth being remembered, there are wonderful things coming out today just as good.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

True, but a lot of big developers aren't releasing full games anymore. There's always a catch to get all the content. Take Mass Effect 2 for example; you buy it used and the cerberus network card is useless, now you have to pay for the content if you want the full game.... although my game experience didn't change at all without the extra crap, it's still kinda poopy what they're doing.

[–]BloodyThorn 0 points1 point ago

I avoid games like that like the plague. Most of the 'big developers' are taking the same approach the movie industry is taking. They are making product that are high on the visuals and the flash, but low on the content.

Which is understandable. To make a game visually staggering you need not only a large team of people, but you still need to skimp somewhere Typically it's content. So make the engine now, release it, and sell the content later.

But I've found a way around all that. I've stopped buying games from the big developers unless the game they produce is exceptional without extra content. I find the smaller game firms to be able to produce games that are more on my side of preference. I seem to be purchasing indie games more and more. Most don't bother with the exceptional visuals, and make up for it in content and playability.

Essentially they make games the quality I was used to getting from the large firms years ago. Hence my statement;

there are wonderful things coming out today just as good.

And I'd dare add 'If not, better.'

Hell, the game that has occupied the bulk of my time lately hasn't even been released yet. It's still in alpha. And I've only given the game producer what I wanted to for it without obligation to do so. Oh, and the graphics are deplorable. But the content is surpassing any game I can think of that's been made in the last ten years.

But I don't expect the larger game companies to change what they are doing any more than I expect Michael Bay or Jerry Bruckheimer to make a movie with a deep plot and no explosions. Truth is, what they are doing is selling. Just not to me.

On top of that, I never found Diablo, or II very good anyway. It was like, 'Wow, someone made a Roguelike in realtime with the Fallout Engine.'

I agree with you. It is possible to find a diamond amongst the coal. Its just sad when profits and pandering become more important than the "craft". :)

Meh, I can't blame a company for wanting to make money. They are going to make what sells. I'd blame popular public tastes before I'd blame someone for selling them what they want.

But there is always going to be someone who cares more about making what they think is a quality product rather than how much money they are going to make on it. Those are the people that typically cater to me.

I know some time has past because I popped in starcraft for old times sake, and the game actually made me fucking sick from playing a 640x480 resolution for 2 hours. I woulda gone longer if I didn't get so dizzy.

I use to do starcraft all nighters, I may never play star craft ever again though.

[–]Labradoodles 0 points1 point ago

Don't fret sir! Starcraft2 should be just around the corner and the beta is awesome. From what I hear the map editor is badass as all getout and someone will most likely release the original campaigns re-done in SC2 because there were some incredible custom campaigns for WcIII... at least that's what I'm hoping for.

For the longest time, the release of the Dreamcast was a metric I used a lot, even though I graduated high school the next year, and that would make more sense to most people. For whatever reason, I could place things better in a mental timeline by "four years after Dreamcast" than "three years after I graduated."

I've been on a kick recently listening to a lot of Husker Du. There's a video on youtube of them appearing on the Joan Rivers Show on April 26th, 1987- they broke up later that year.

I was two months old when they made that appearance on Joan Rivers.

I was actually just talking about how Nintendo 64 is still at certain McDonald's restaurants and how I feel it's still relatively relevant... but it's incredibly old.

Also, people born in 1990? They're 19-20.
