You mean... I could be less than an hour away and not have to deal with daylight savings time!? Dawson Creek, here I come.

Moved from Dawson Creek to Saskatchewan. Was much less confusing that way.

Well I mean... Why change the clocks on a province that no one lives in. Do you have roads there? Have you ever tried Mc Donalds?

[–]dcramps 21 points22 points ago

Do you have roads there?

Saskatchewan has more roads than any other province.

Coming from mountainous BC, I think southern Ontario is flatter. Saskatchewan rocks, particularly Saskatoon.

[–]crankybadger 2 points3 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Small parts of it might be, but the rest is shield, you know, where the only way to get a road through all that rolling rock is with dynamite. Even the flat parts are scattered between rolling hills because of all the rivers.

Hamilton used to be the way to get to Toronto. Then the province paid to have a giant ass bridge built so that everyone can avoid it.

Actually, I bought my 1955 Dissoto from Saskatoon, and the company we work with based out of sask is pretty much a world leader in what it does (and no it's not farm equipment). So overall, positive can come out of there

My alarm clock automatically adjusts for DST, so this morning I was up at 7 AM wondering why it was 8 AM in my bedroom.

I'm tempted to move there just to get away from all of this foolishness. Just... I don't think you have any good bagels. And I'm sure you don't serve poutine.

[–]geckospots 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

...but that's the point, it never happens during a week for exactly that reason. It's always been 'set your clocks ahead/behind this Sunday morning.

My memory is going it seems. As a kid I would get worried because I wouldn't know which time to use and didn't want to be late for school.

[–]Kitchenfire 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

It saves quite a bit of electrical energy actually. Don't know the exact number but consider that for every home across the country there will be 1 hour less of electrical consumption due to lighting. That's a fuck load of energy saved.

[–]adaminc 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

I have read a few reports saying that it doesn't save energy, and in fact expends more energy because people are heating more in the morning, and running A/C more at night, or something, I will find the reports.

[–]madetoday 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

There's some disagreement, but if there are energy savings they're very small - certainly much less than proponents argue.

Paper saying DST increases energy usage

Paper saying DST slightly reduces energy consumption

Fuck. Fuck. I have so much homework to do before Monday and now I've lost an hour. I'm only on here as a 30 minute break and it's like I've been punished :S

[–]josh6499 7 points8 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Try to take frequent breaks. Idealy half hour work/ half hour of anything other than work. You will get more done. Never keep on working if you hit a mental block. Also, study/work in varying locations, not the same place all the time. This is basically to hack your brain into being more effective.

[–]kyookumbah 3 points4 points ago

I wonder how this'll work at my job. I work til 2 am today, but does that mean it comes an hour sooner? I don't know. It's up to the boss I suppose.

[–]FortyFs 3 points4 points ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

Considering the change occurs at 2am, your schedule doesn't change.

You work until 2 am for the same amount of hours you usually do, and then you go home at 3am.

[–]gorilla_the_ape 1 point2 points ago

That depends on your employer and your terms & conditions.

When I was last working hourly during time changes, we were given overtime in the fall, and had an hour deducted in the spring. Assuming you worked both of them, that was a net benefit of .5 hour.

[–]Sir_Meowsalot 1 point2 points ago

[–]josh6499 0 points1 point ago

I work rotating 12hr day and night shifts. Your, "natural clock" must really suck to not be able to adjust for one measly hour once a year.

[–]Idiomatick 0 points1 point ago

sorry, this has been archived and can no longer be voted on

:( My body can't adjust to the silly earth 24 hour cycle. I'll be much more happy in 150,000 years when days are more appropriately lengthened. I suppose I could move to mars a bit before then... Really, 28~30hours would be best.

[–]mrsix 0 points1 point ago

Mars is only an extra 39 minutes 35 seconds long though

[–]Idiomatick 0 points1 point ago

Yeah I know, but it will slow to 30 hour days before earth afaik. Perhaps not, but atleast I could likely go to mars to pickup the extra half hour well before the earth slows by a half hour :P
