This is a great piece of advice. An easy way to make a more informed decision. Too add to your method a bit, I always tell my friends to just talk to the person. You can surely kill 5 minutes bullshitting with them and never once have I had someone say to me "I'm in a hurry man" which, in that case, I would tell them to go ahead and go then. Ask them if they are enjoying themselves, even how business is going.

It takes a lot more than merely trying to be a good liar to actually be one. Study their use of proxemics and kinesics and, probably most importantly, maintain eye contact. A lot of information can be derived from a person by watching basic body language.
