Faced with leaked top secret documents that her son was killed by friendly fire, mother refuses to accept it. "that's what the Department of Defense told her, and that's what she believes." (thestar.com)

The 'honor' in their loved ones deaths is sometimes all they have left, and they will cling to it with the ferocity of a mother bear defending her cubs.
I suggested to a bereaved mother that we bring the troops home to prevent other soldiers from meeting her son's unfortunate fate... I was promptly called a coward for not enlisting with him to "protect our freedoms."
Sometimes reality is too painful to accept.

Coming to terms with the fact that her son died for nothing is too horrible to fathom. You can't really blame the mother for a mechanism kicking in to keep her from something so traumatic.
If anything, this should go to show that not all victims of these pointless wars are the ones being killed and maimed over there.

Regardless of who killed him, he didn't die for nothing. He died so a bunch of military defense contractors and oil companies could make a ton of money.

What use is exposing lies if people just refuse to accept them? Depressing on a lot of fronts.

Perhaps in this case it's best to leave her be. She has hurt enough. She has earned the right to personally believe what she wants, IMO.

No doubt. Mom has went through hell already. I posted this as an example of the conflict between realists and those with a belief based outlook, not to rip on the greaving mother.

Plus the fact a friend of her son, who served with him, and was there when the incident happened, told her the same story might explain her faith in the military's explanation of her sons death. Or maybe he's part of the conspiracy too.

Let's not be too quick to jump to conclusions here. The mere existence of a report contradicting the DOD's official position isn't damning in and of itself; who knows if this log saying it was friendly fire is accurate?
It certainly is worth looking into, but to criticize the mother of someone killed in this incident for not immediately accepting an alternative story that has yet to be verified is disingenuous.

The DoD has a history of covering up friendly fire incidents.

These reports aren't linked to spoil a mother's memory. They are leaked to inform everyone else. Let her be and other people will learn the valuable information.

The seed is planted. But her support center will make her abort. Then she'll quietly seethe, not unlike a schizophrenic.

C'mon, man, this would be very disturbing news to any patriotic family, in particular. Accepting that dearly loved ones were killed 'accidentally' is not going to be high on the list of emotional issues to put in order.
I have no sense of patriotism or rigid allegiance to my country but I, at least, hold some rational understanding for those that do live their lives cemented by faith in country.

Nothing to see here move on.
Just patriotism covering up the truth once again..
