I refuse to have an opinion until I hear what Beck and Rush have to say about this.

When I was in the Marine Corps, I used to deliver mail to the Pentagon. That wasn't my MOS, or anything, but our unit was one of many units that would rotate this duty. See, lots of mail tot he Pentagon has to be personally delivered by a Marine to the recipients.

When I went to the Pentagon, there was some pretty big guns right at the entrances: M16s, M4s and MP5s. This was in 2002ish, so it was right after 9/11, but I imagine there's still some mighty weapons there. I can't imagine what would make a person walk up to a place as tightly locked down as the Pentagon and open fire. It must have been suicide by cop. You'd have to be pretty dense to think you could accomplish anything but suicide with an attack like that.

Maybe he just finished watching The Matrix...

I don't get the Zeitgeist reference. Which Zeitgeist are you referring to? If we're both thinking of the same thing, I don't see how minarchist, libertarian and conservative are applicable.

They aren't applicable. The person who titled this link just attached every ideology he hates to the Pentagon shooter.

It really is pathetic. I thought this subreddit was called "free thought?"

After all the upvotes a story with this title got, I think it should be renamed "Free of thought."

FTA:

Bedell appears to have railed against the government repeatedly on the Internet. Through podcasts and a Wikipedia page, a man identified online as JPatrickBedell cast the government as a criminal force destroying personal liberties.

"This seizure of the United States government by an international criminal conspiracy is a long-established reality," the man said in a podcast in November 2006, which also was published as text online.

I dunno about the Zeigeist reference, however that is what the typical minarchist libertarian sounds like to the rest of the world.

This guy was confused. Not about his claims - all the quotes in the article are arguably accurate statements about the US government - but about how to interact with the world.

His mistake was a simple one: It turns out that trying to shoot up the pentagon with a pair of handguns doesn't work. This is something he would have been able to predict if he had put some thought into it.

Well, he got his manifesto read on Good Morning Frikkin America. So it "worked" for that.

Chris Matthews (afternoon hardball show) just previewed his next segment, and he referred to the pentagon shooting.

sigh - called him a "truther".

I would argue that nearly everyone who gets called a 'terrorist' or a 'patriot' these days is just another wingnut gone off the reservation.

There does seem to be some observable patterns here though:

  • religious and other moral figures repeatedly caught engaging in deviant sexual relationships

  • right wingers waving flags with one hand and attacking government entities with the other

These two patterns seem to be hot potatoes that the mainstream media doesn't want to mess with.

This guy also ranted about Bush. Hardly a right wing/left wing thing. More like an insanity thing. But his writings mimic a million internet posts here, at DU, Kos, FDL, FR, on and on, boith sides, ranting away. This continues every day. Both sides, on and on and on. Everyone needs to tone it down.

Finally, the only one guilty is the kid. Thankfully, he didn't bring anyone down with him. But you know, the next time you read someone going off the edge a bit? it would be a good idea to nudge them back towards reality. I know these are often used as opportunities to score political points, but this kid is dead. For nothing, For nonsense. This did not have to happen, maybe one persons' comment, maybe one reasonable voice could have helped him.

But just putting our heads in the sand and pretending all is okay, it is those bad people over there isn't going to cut it.

Yea, unfortunately it's a hard line to walk. On the one hand, you want to spur people to action, but on the other hand you have to make sure you're not accidentally spurring someone to the wrong actions.

Those two officers, and a third who came to assist, all fired at the man, who was shot in the head and died early Friday. The two wounded officers had superficial injuries and have been released from the hospital.

Crackshot! Way to go boys in blue!
